Yggdrasil (Yggy), now Riley, ADOPTED, updated 9/23/2020

Writer's picture: Melanie JohnsonMelanie Johnson

Yggdrasil's smokey fur blends into a dark blur in most pictures

Yggy is the most timid of her siblings. She tends to plant her roots in a single place to observe the realms around her. She likes cubbies and dark, cozy dens... dark cat, closed eyes, dark spaces.... these things do not lend themselves to great pictures. Selfies at weird angles don't help, and these photos are also terrible, but the moment was too precious not to share anyway. Yggy hung out in my hoodie while I was tutoring, purring in my ear.

Yggy is very docile when held, making her another favorite of the visiting children. She was adorable in a tiny Toothless cosplay session.

Update 8/2/2020

Yggdrasil was difficult to get to know. She is so passive, she stays in the background... particularly when energetic sister MewMew is running circles around the crowd and dramatic sister Tessa is crying for attention all day. I rarely saw her during the day, but would wake up with her curled into me every morning, and she'd be purring away! I started to wonder if she was a very social lap cat with no spare lap to sit in, as the other kittens were always dominating my time and attention.

So I arranged a home visit for her and brother Jarvis. My buddy has no pets and works from home. He agreed to take the kittens for a day. They were very nervous at first, running around their new environment, crying. But they settled down in less than an hour and decided that computer coding was a great career. Between writing and approving codes, they verified that they were, indeed, lap kittens.

When the older batch of foster kittens (the Spice kittens) got adopted, there was a little more room in the household. This also helped Yggy come out of her shell a bit. She sought me out for play time and would get to my lap first for a cuddle session during the day. She is not fond of my hyperactive dog, Miyuki... but gets along with the calmer Luka fairly well!

Luka was pretty happy to get his thinking cat on!

Yggy was happy to play with some visiting children. The little girl brought him every toy she could find and she played until he passed out. I recently found small cloth weaning collars that help me differentiate Yggy from brother Jarvis, which is SO HELPFUL in my newer pictures!

Updated 8/30/20

Yggy was adopted 8/8/2020. I'm a little behind in blogging because this coincided with the start of a new school year- a normally chaotic time made even more challenging due to the pandemic.

Yggy's new mom renamed her Riley, and contacted me the day after she adopted her to let me know she was doing very well. She cuddled with her mom and a 12 year old chorkie, Lola, all night. I'm looking forward to more updates of Riley in her new home.

Update 9/23/2020

Riley has charmed her whole house. She loves to snuggle with her mommy at night.

Riley loves to pose in her window sill and lounge around the house.
