T'Challa, now Henry, ADOPTED!! updated 1/22/20

Writer's picture: Melanie JohnsonMelanie Johnson

T'Challa is the calmest, most regal of these kittens. Sometimes he stands apart from his siblings, surveying his kingdom. When Toasty Marshmallow gets too rough with them, he'll step in and wrestle him away.

Somehow, though he usually lets the others eat first, T'Challa is the biggest of the kittens. He always stands aside if his siblings are hungry, like a true leader. He must eat all the dry kibble that is available to them when they run out of their wet mush, because he has grown steadily. His brother M'Baku often chooses to nurse on his side- no idea why. But T'Challa lets him do it, though I have reason to know he uses his very sharp kitten teeth

Update 1/9/20

It's entirely possible that some of these pictures are NOT T'Challa, because my vision isn't great and it's really hard for me to differentiate him from sister Shuri in photos unless they're both in it. It's pretty easy to tell them apart when I'm actually with them- if it's a supersized kitten, it's T'Challa! He's noticeably bigger than all of his siblings. Sister Shuri is also always meowing or making adorable chirping noises, so I almost always know where she is.

In person, I can always identify T'Challa by his size!

Early on, T'Challa would often go off on his own, surveying us from a slight distance. But inthe past week, he's been seeking more attention and affection. I think he really enjoyed the series of visitors that came to meet these kittens, particularly these young girls who fell in love with this friendly litter.

T'Challa was so gentle and patient with their enthusiastic affection. They fought over holding "that black kitten" and were thrilled when he curled up in the kitty purrito they made.

T'Challa also gets along with well behaved dogs. His black fur was a nice contrast with my white floof.

Although T'Challa is spending more and more time with his sister Shuri, he was the only kitten big enough to be scheduled for surgery this week and he'll be heading to the adoption center alone. I'm a bit worried about that, as this is the most SOCIAL batch of kittens I've fostered (or owned) and they thrive off interaction and attention. I hope that he'll be adopted quickly because I think he will be stressed if he is isolated for too long. Although the most quiet of his siblings, he's not afraid to tell the world when he's unhappy or stressed, and he may sing the song of his people at the adoption center.

But T'Challa is quite the charmer- he loves everyone and is so mellow. He needs a tribe- either humans who are home more than gone, or other pets that he can bond with in the household while his humans work.

T'Challa is now Henry, a very lucky kitten. His new mommy wanted a companion for Tucker, a senior dog, and Henry seems to be the perfect fit for their new home.

Henry's first night in his forever home

I was THRILLED when Henry's mom contacted me through the blog to send me a picture and note. It sounds like Henry spent his first night snuggled up to his new mom, showing them how much he appreciated his new life.

I think Henry and Tucker will be a great match, and I know that Henry is adored. He likes to perch on his parent's shoulders and spend time with his new family.

We had a next door neighbor who had a black cat that we loved(the neighbors left a lot and left Henry out so we would take him in on cold nights and maybe some others ;)). When they moved i felt like I lost my own cat. In honor of how much we loved Henry, we've decided to call him Henry. I hope you're not too disappointed.

Kathi!!!! Thank you for posting! I'm in love with your picture! T'Challa was raised with two medium sized dogs, so with a proper introduction he should be good with them! I am actually not sure how he was found- but I can ask! I got him from another foster who bottle fed him until he was ready to wean. He's just a sweet boy!!! I'm so happy!!
