The night light trio (Dusk, Eclipse, and Twilight) were trapped 2 weeks ago, but two additional kittens were being elusive. They were finally also trapped and came home with us tonight to join their brothers. The creamy one with is a boy and the one with brown-gray spots around her eyes is the only girl of the bunch.

We considered naming them after Hiccup and Astrid's kids, to keep with the How To Train Your Dragon babies theme from the Night Lights, but their names are Zephyr (ok, I can dig that) and Nuffink. NUFFINK?? I'm just not sure I can name a kitten Nuffink if I want him to have the best chance to be adopted.

We started by putting them in the kennel with their siblings. No problems! We gave them all treats but the new kittens refused to eat anything and mostly huddled in or behind the litter box. We decided to bring them into the bedroom with their brothers. Because this entire crew came kennel trained but human shy, we have been letting them sleep in the bedroom instead of in the kennel at night. We make sure they stay calm in the kennel during the day when we're at work so they won't freak out when it is time to go to the adoption center. It's been working pretty well.

When we got to the cat tree in the bedroom, things were smooth at first. The newbies hunkered down in the cat house and the Night Lights ran around the bedroom with each other. I opened up a new packet of treats- a fish based one that is a lot softer and smellier than the chicken we offered earlier and the girl started eating right away. The boy didn't even seem to notice it. I began to wonder if he could smell- a lot of the cats get sick when they're stressed, so maybe he was congested. I opened his mouth and put a tiny bit of food in there... and he realized this was YUMMMMM

Right now, they're wrestling with each other on the top of the cat tree, and Dusk is climbing up to check them out. The new boy already seems very interested in the toys and watching the others explore. I think he considered climbing down earlier to join his siblings (I think the Night Lights stayed on the cat tree for most of the first week before they were brave enough to explore.

The Night Lights head to adoption this weekend (just 2 more nights!) and hopefully will get adopted... but the current plan is to bring them home Sunday night if they don't find a home to continue socializing them and to help the new kittens adjust. FINGERS CROSSED... I hope people will give these shy kittens a chance! They're all soooooo sweet!

Their Night Light brothers were ALL adopted on their first day!! These two only got to be reunited with their siblings for 2 nights, but now they will be the center of attention here.

With the Night Lights gone, they really feel like 2 different litters. This made naming them much easier! Introducing orphaned siblings Eomer and Eowyn!!! (Ay-oh-mer and Ay-oh-win). Hopefully these siblings will be as noble and admirable as their elvaan inspirations.

Eomer is is mostly light cream with gray ears. Eowyn has the splotches on her face. They're so calm!

These two are very food motivated and love their wet treats.. whether a packet like this, a pate tube, fish filet cat treat, or canned kitten food. Most of the time Eomer will push Eowyn out of the way to get treats, but sometimes Eowyn sticks up for herself and will yell and push back.

They also love relaxing in pet beds more than directly on humans. If I have a pet bed in my lap, they'll sit with me for a long time, and often purr. It's pretty rewarding, as most of my house cats prefer hard boxes I get for free than any of the plush bedding I have bought over the years!!

Eowyn loves to hang out in cubes and the hammocks... but Eomer is usually just sitting out in the hopen.

11/3/19 UPDATE

I thought the elves were friendly with other pets, as they get along really well with all of my housecats. But much like their namesakes in the Lord of the Rings, these elves are very loyal to their own and wary of outsiders. They seek out my housecats they've been raised with for the last several weeks, but they do NOT care much for the new tots that I brought home on Halloween. Eowyn got over her initial dislike and tolerates them well enough, trying to join us in the kitten pen during treat time. But Eomer growls every time he sees me giving them treats or petting them.

Also like the elves they were named for, they do not NEED to be together, but they do share a very strong love for each other. They'll play alone or with other kittens, but often snuggle after meals or when they're sleepy.

Eomer seems more attached to Eowyn, and often follows her lead unless there is a feather toy involved. He's braver when she is near him.

This plush unicorn bed, which I didn't mean to buy but somehow ended up in my house anyway, has been worth every cent. It's a favorite place of my house cats and fosters. Eomer and Eowyn prefer to be held in the bed rather than directly in a lap.

And finally, this week, they're letting us approach them and touch them without running away or cringing. Both have learned the sound of a food pouch being opened or lips smacking when other cats are eating and will come running at treat time- but Eowyn is also starting to approach me when I don't have food! I think they'll be ready for their forever homes when they finally get fixed.
