Once Malasada decided we were friends, she simultaneously decided that she could not live without friendship. She stopped cowering and transitioned seamlessly into demanding attention. With Tesseract/Blackberry recently adopted, the position of Princess Diva Pants was vacant and Malasada seemed determined to fill that roll immediately.
She's too busy playing or cuddling to eat. Sometimes I have to pry her mouth open and place a bite inside before she realizes food is good- then she eats with gusto... sometimes mistaking the finger that provided the food as another tasty morsel. Lucky for me, she's pretty gentle.
She likes to climb up the cat post and cry for attention.
After 2 days of being totally comfortable and interested in the big cat, Mochi, who kept sneaking into the room to watch the kittens... Malasada decided suddenly that this room belonged to kittens and Mochi was no longer welcome.
She may have some trouble after next week when they come out of quarantine and we allow the house cats free access to the kitten room.
She may just be dreading having the attention split between her and other fur babies.
Watch to the end... she's so cute!
Update 9/26/2020
Malasada is quite the recipe for Cat-tastrophes. Her first injury that we noticed was a large slice on her foot. During an extended car trip she had an accident in the car before we got home- while cleaning them up, I thought I was scrubbing away some poop when she started yowling. I felt wretched when blood started running and I realized she had a large flap of skin flopping around. Besides her loud complaints when I was cleaning it, she didn't let this injury slow her down at all. It healed very well!
(We do not allow the kittens to be outside, but stopped to visit someone on the way home from her weekend visit while I was out of town-she was held and secure the entire time she was outside)
While she was still recovering on her tiny toes, we brought home a piece of guava roll from my mom. While I was tasting it, the donut shop mewled around my feet. As a joke, I offered them some, just to show them it was not kitten food.
I've never been more wrong. The kittens assured me this was prime kitten food and it must all be consumed by them immediately. This was the moment that I discovered how food aggressive my previously reluctant eaters had become. They did not want to share with me, nor with each other. Beignet was particularly hungry and tried to get as much as possible, including a piece that was still in Malasada's mouth. He bit into her lip.
A few days later, my hyper active dog stomped down while prancing around and we heard a prolonged kitten yowl. When I was finally able to get her to move away... sure enough.. Malasada.
But the worst (and hopefully it will stay that way) was the night I filled up my hydroflask... it's huge... and heavy... then lost grip on it and dropped it... right onto this 1.5# kitten. She froze and I was convinced she was paralyzed. She started shivering and her eyes dilated greatly.
We went immediately to the vet. By the time we were there, her eyes were more normal. She still didn't move or mewl, she just wanted to curl into me. She got a great review and a pain shot, and she never showed any memory or pain from it.
Malasada is the sweetest girl, who just wants to be with you and eat your food.
She also loves Stitch, just like I do!
Update 10/11/20
Cute Malasada, she's really quite the character. She loves to be held and is friendly with everyone.
I wasn't sure this visitor would be able to walk out the door, he was so smitten with this kitten.
Pigwidgeon has become particularly found of Malasada and force grooms her frequently. Malasada does not seem to mind at all.
Update 10/24/20
Of course, little Malasada didn't do well with her surgery. Her siblings were up and running around- back to their normal routine. Malasada was face first in her pet bed and her body was so cold. I had to give her a little heating pad and blanket to keep her warm and checked on her constantly.
But, like all things- she recovered with no lasting problems. The next day she had visitors... and they fell in love with her sweet personality. She was playing when she got picked up... and immediately decided she was no longer energetic but needed to take a nap. After a few minutes... she stretched up her feet and all the humans in the room LOST IT. Those paws!! The little squish beans!!
I think Malasada will easily find a great home and family that will love her... hopefully they'll line the floors and walls with pillows to keep her safe. And I hope even more they'll keep me updated!!

Oops... I was so busy updating Beignet's post I neglected Malasada's. She was adopted the same day as her brother, and I got to meet her new parents briefly as they were filling out their paperwork at the same time that I filled out mine! They said they'd reach out and keep in touch, but so far they must be too busy with their baby girl- so no news yet. Hopefully they'll see the blog on a future IBR kitten post and stop by to say hello... and send pictures!!
