Eomer, ADOPTED 12/7/19

Writer's picture: Melanie JohnsonMelanie Johnson

Eomer helped me bake a pie, hanging in his kitten sling

Eomer is bolder than his sister, but is still wary of humans when approached. He may hiss when we get near him (though less every day!) but once we pick him up, he will cuddle in a pet bed in our lap, hang out in his kitten sling, or just relax in our arms.

He loves his kitten treats and is learning to approach us when we have treats in hand. He's super mellow. After his bath, when I was setting us up for drying time, both puppies came over to lick his head and Eomer just accepted their attention.

I'd write more, but I promised him some snacks and he's been waiting patiently!!

Eomer is a charmer! In the last 10 days, he has completely stopped hissing, mostly stopped running away, and will sometimes even approach us for attention. He is particularly friendly in the morning. He is in the bedroom with us at night, usually on the cat tree. In the morning he and sister Eowyn are moved to their kennel for the day. Though I've worked really hard to try to transition them to kibble so they can be ready for adoption, I can't resist giving them a little treat. In the 30-60 seconds between me putting them in their crate, then getting their treat and returning, Eomer starts crying for attention. This boy loves his food! I hand feed them all of their treats, petting them as much as I can while they eat so they get used to human hands As long as I don't startle him, Eomer will usually accept pets without pulling away now.

He loves other cats, and they all seem to love him back. I was shocked to find Roxas, our resident grumpy cat, just casually hanging out with him. Roxas usually either attacks the foster kittens or ignores them- after these pictures were taken, he actually moved to sit face to face with Eomer, just relaxing together. I think watching our household cats crawl all over me has helped Eomer learn that he is safe here.

Sister Eowyn didn't care much for our new kitten bunk bed, but Eomer seems to really love fuzzy beds. He just hung out while the other cats explored the bottom bunk.

He particularly liked it after we sprinkled it with catnip.... boy, did he love that!

Eomer is so mellow with cats, but there is something so amazing about seeing a kitten who used to be so terrified of people learn to love and trust. I cried the first time he purred. One morning he let me cuddle him up to my sleeping husband, demanding that I take out my camera (with flash) and bug the crud out of my hubby who was JUST TRYING TO SLEEP.

He later told me that he did hear Eomer purring and really wasn't mad that I half woke him up hours before his alarm went off...

Eomer has been heavy enough to get fixed for 2 weeks, but I'm so grateful for the extra time to help him adapt to a home life. Once you earn his trust, he repays you with his sweetness.

11/3/19 UPDATE

Eomer has become more sure of himself lately. I couldn't catch a video of him actually going out (or in), but he discovered the cat flap leading to our backyard cat enclosure over a week ago and has led his sister out there to enjoy the cool Fall weather.

He also LOVES to play. His favorite past time is wrestling with his sister, whether she wants to wrestle or not. But he is delighted with feather wands and will sometimes growl when he captures them.

12/5/19 UPDATE

When 3 new kittens arrived on Halloween, Eomer thought it was the worst trick. He followed them around, growling and hissing for several days. But he learned the Halloween Treats were too sweet to resist. Not only did they have enough energy to keep up with his playful ways, but they were warm snuggly partners. Churro, the short haired male kitten, seeks out Eomer on a regular basis for wrestling and naps. Churro will be so sad in 2 days when Eomer seeks out his forever home.

Just because he loves the little floofs, he hasn't forgotten his sister. Eomer and Eowyn would love to be adopted together so they can continue their snuggling.

But Eomer is comfortable on his own as well, as long as you will play with him until it's nap time.

Eomer is still skittish around humans. If he's walking around or on his feet, he'll run from you if you move towards him. However, if he's relaxed and snoozing, you can approach slowy and pet his belly. If you have cat treats, he'll swarm over you, demanding his fair share. If you pick him up, he'll curl into you. He never fights. Once he trusts you, he'll come to you when you're relaxing. He's crawled into my lap when I'm working on the computer and sleeps on my feet some nights.

I hope Eomer finds a home that gives him the patience and love he needs to bring out his sweetness and trust.
