Dusk, ADOPTED 10/5/19

Writer's picture: Melanie JohnsonMelanie Johnson

Available 10/5/19 How to train your kitten? Dusk's first 7 weeks of life were filled with danger and he isn't quite convinced the world is safe. Regardless, he is an extremely gentle kitten. Although he will often hide or hiss when approached, once caught he never fights, scratches, or bites. After two short weeks, he's stopped hissing at his foster parents, but does still get nervous around strangers at first. He's highly food motivated and loves to be hand fed. Dusk loves to play with his siblings and is beginning to chase a laser pointer. He'll do best adopted with a sibling or in a home with other cats. He also tolerates medium sized dogs. Dusk has been visited by many teenagers and adults to help him get socialized, but hasn't yet met small children. He has just begun exploring the house and reaching out for his foster parents. He loves toys and is starting to play with feather wands and interactive toys. He is not very stealthy when he plays and thunders around on tile floors! Wouldn't you like to help him learn that the world is full of love and comfort?

These kittens were estimated around 7 weeks old when they were rescued. They're pretty timid so I didn't get as much time or as many opportunities to take pictures. Please see their group thread for their back story: https://kitteeohana.wixsite.com/website/post/night-lights-9-19-19

Dusk got fixed last week, but I didn't think he was ready for adoption yet. He stopped hissing at me but tended to hiss at any strangers that came to visit. I asked my family to spend extra time with him so he could learn to trust lots of people, so he was picked up a lot.

Dusk is slow to trust and easy to startle, but the most gentle kitten once captured. For over a week he mostly sat like a lump in his kennel or on the cat tree. But he started to play 1-2 days ago and has really become enthusiastic with toys!

The last few days, Dusk is really beginning to understand that he is loved and the world is not so scary. He's approached me a few times and is starting to call for attention. Today, while waiting for his brothers to get back from their neuter appointment, Katsu Kurry (one year old calico house cat) kept him company and taught him how to purr. He also snuck on the bed last night, which is the first time he's really sought out human attention when food is not involved.

I think Dusk will be a great addition to the right family. He's so sweet and LOVES food so he'd warm up to you faster if you hand feed him a few meals- especially wet food treats. He'd be the perfect companion for someone who wants a low maintenance cat or for someone who wants the satisfaction of pouring love and time into him to help him be more social.

If you adopt Dusk, I'd really love to hear how he is doing! Kitteeohana@gmail.com

Dusk and brother Twilight got adopted TOGETHER! This is the best news. They will feel so much more confident with a friend to help them adjust. I'm positive they'll love their new family; they came to adopt one kitten but couldn't break these two brothers up and took them both home. They're both soooooo lovable and sweet. And their new family was so happy and kind!

I'll miss his thundering feet, but I'm beyond thrilled for his future!
