6/8/19 Kitten Num Nums

Saturday morning started with errands. When I got home, I needed to make a present for a retirement party, but I thought I had enough time to play with the kittens. They were in a sleepy kitten pile when I arrived, and I thought I could play with them until they tired out, then crate them and do my crafting.

As soon as I opened up the crate and sat back, they swarmed to my lap and climbed up. After a little wiggling and fighting for the most comfortable place in my lap, they settled back down and passed out. Warm, limp, sleeping kittens left me complete paralyzed, sitting on the hard floor for two straight hours. Then one kitten head popped up suddenly and it dashed to the litter box, mewling all the way (the little girl always mews to let us know she is going potty). One brother followed her and the other three sat up, blinking their sleep away and I thought I was finally free! But the potty cats ran back, climbed up, and they tried to settle in for another round of sleep.

Tried to convince the hubby that no one would notice. Is chest hair really all that unusual??

With great reluctance, I picked them up and crated them so I could get my crafting done. I managed to finish with 20 minutes of cuddle time to spare before the party.

After dinner, it was time to re-weigh them, and they had all lost weight!! This was very concerning, as the foster manual said they should gain 1/4-1/2 oz per day. I did expect that they might not eat well the first day with us, due to the stress of transition, but weight gain in kittens is so important. IBR had provided us with kitten kibble and instructions to free feed them, but we had only seen them nibble at it. Typically when we were in the room, they only wanted to play or cuddle with us. We decided it was time to offer canned food.

Kitten feeding wheel!

No one was shocked that I could not stop kissing their kitten bellies. They were all so sweet I referred to them collectively as my Kitten Num Nums, which inspired their names:

Caramel: male brown nose

Cotton Candy: fluffy butt

Popcorn: spot nose

Scotchmallow: goopy eyes

Butterscotch: female
